Why Build Green?
It seems everyone is building “green” these days, but what does “green” really mean? And why should you build green?
Why Build Green?
Why are "green" homes becoming more and more popular? Homes that are built and verified "green" provide the homeowner with a host of benefits, including:
  • Saving money by reducing energy consumption, so you save money on utility bills
  • Improved air and water quality allows you to live in a more comfortable and healthier environment
  • Increased durability over typical construction requires less maintenance, saving you time and money
  • Reduces waste and pollution, conserves and restores natural resources helping to protect the environment

What is Green?
Building green means incorporating environmental and efficiency issues into every phase of the construction cycle, including:
  • Lot Design, Preparation and Construction
  • Resource Efficiency
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Water Efficiency
  • Indoor Environmental Quality
  • Operation, Maintenance and Homeowner Education
  • Global Impact
A true green home is verified by a third party. Inspections are conducted during the building process to verify that certain criteria have been met. During those inspections, points are awarded for each achievement. Once a certain threshold is reached, a home is verified green.
